What is the Singles' Day?
Singles' Day originates from China, where it is a real shopping feast. On this day, the biggest Chinese shops, such as Alibaba and AliExpress, slash their prices very hard to allow customers to buy everything they need with sensational discounts. The campaign also operates under the name Global Shopping Festival. There is a trend that other shops, not only from Asia, are also joining the game. In Australia, for example, Strawberrynet is preparing its special event. We can safely say that on 11.11 we celebrate the World Singles' Day. If you are not single, nothing is lost - discount codes, promotions and other actions organized for this special day are available to everyone.
When is the Singles' Day?
Singles' Day is organized every year on 11.11. So it is not a mobile holiday, unlike Black Friday. The choice of such date is not accidental. The four ones symbolise the singles who come together to celebrate the benefits of being alone or to mourn the sorrows associated with it. Promotions organised on 11.11 encourage people to spend time together on shopping and giving small gifts.
Singles' Day promotions
The day of the Singles on 11 November is a time of fantastic promotions. Amazing opportunities can be found mainly in Chinese e-commerce shops such as AliExpress, BangGood or Gearbest. As far as the Australian market is concerned, wellness shops such as Strawberrynet are willing to take part in the event. What can you expect? Certainly big discounts. You will buy many products much cheaper, some with a few dozen percent discounts. For the day of the singles AliExpress, in addition to promotions, every year prepares attractive competitions in which you can win coupons worth 10 or even 20 dollars for your next purchase. The fun starts earlier, so it is worth following the promotions as early as November 1st!
The story of Singles' Day
The Singles' Day was created on the initiative of four Chinese students of Nanjing University, inspired by four singles in the date. They reminded them of four lonely people. They said it was a great opportunity to celebrate being single together. Initially, the custom was known only in student circles, but it quickly spread throughout the country. And although the opportunity to meet with friends and spend time in a pleasant atmosphere is at the heart of this custom, the shops quickly picked up on it. At first, small, private shops tempted with promotions, and people were eager to buy small things for themselves and for their friends as gifts. This changed in 2009 when Alibaba organised the Global Shopping Festival for singles. The festival turned out to be a great success! Since then, it has been regularly repeated and new players join the campaign every year.
Singles' day has beaten Cyber Monday
While both Black Friday and Cyber Monday are very widespread and profitable in the world, Singles' Day is in the same league. The sales revenue for that day has been higher than for Cyber Monday, for example, since 2012, even several times over! It is enough to mention that on Singles' Day 2022, within 24 hours of the action, the Chinese giant Alibaba alone achieved record sales of 268.4 billion yuan, or USD 38.4 billion. That is more than Amazon earned in the previous quarter. And it is only one of the players! The potential is huge because consumers love Singles' Day promotions that save huge amounts of money on shopping.
